SWP & Risk Management

Check the Medicine H&S website for a bank of completed Safe Work Procedures (SWP) and risk assessments.

Safe Work Procedures (SWP)

The objective of a SWP is to ensure that written instructions have been developed for all activities that pose a risk to the health and safety of people. SWPs should be written by a staff member(s) and/or student(s) with sound, hands on experience and knowledge of the tasks.

Risk management

The objective is to ensure that all potential hazards associated with an area/task/process/equipment are identified and controlled so far as is reasonably practicable.

Completion of the forms

If you are completing a SWP or risk assessment, you should check to see if there is one already available in the bank and use it as a starting point to write your own record. It is not sufficient to simply download a risk assessment/SWP; it must be adopted and changed to reflect what exactly happens in your area.

Once you have completed yours, please post it in the bank of SWP/risk assessments so that it can be shared with others who can use it in the future.

  1. Log-in to the Medicine H&S website with your zpass
  2. Click on the green button “Create a new page”
  3. In the “Type” drop-down list choose “RA and SWP”
  4. Complete the blank boxes. (The keywords used should be those that would be useful in a search for this document)
