Dr Ben Smith is the Co-Deputy Director of CONCERT, the Centre for Oncology Education and Research Translation at the Ingham Institute and University of New South Wales. Ben’s research aims to ensure equitable access to high quality evidence-based psychosocial cancer care for all people living with cancer. He has a particular interest in fear of cancer recurrence, digital health interventions and underserved populations impacted by cancer, such as culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

Dr Smith is the Deputy Director (Policy & Practice) of the Centre for Oncology Education and Research Translation (CONCERT), Ingham Institute of Applied Medical Research and UNSW. He has 10+ years of psycho-oncology research experience (5 post-PhD). His research is focused on improving the accessibility, equity and sustainability of evidence-based psychosocial cancer care. Dr Smith has secured $5.7M in funding, published 38 journal articles (21 first/second author), 3 book chapters and been cited 450+ times (Scopus h-index of 13). In 2019 he won the prestigious Clinical Oncology Society of Australia New Investigator in Psycho-Oncology award in recognition of his accomplishments. Dr Smith has a strong track record in fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) research, with a SciVal Field-Weighted Citation Impact of 1.85, indicating his publications are cited 85% more than the global average for similar publications.
