Phase 3 Skills

Timeline for Acquiring Procedural Skills

List of Clinical Skills to be performed in Phase 3

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Sterile Gown and Glove for Operating Theatres (SGG & OT)
  • Appropriate use and application of sutures, including knot tying, and the indication for the use of clips
  • Performance of arterial blood gas (ABG)
  • Collection of blood cultures
  • Urinary catherisation - on model
  • IV blood sampling / venesection (Venepuncture)
  • Wound dressing and care
  • Opthalmoscopy (model)
  • Auroscopy (model)
     

Blood Culture

List of Clinical Skills to be observed or possibly preformed in Phase 3 (at least 50% should be observed)

  • Care of central and long lines
  • Establishment and maintenance of IV lines, including ordering fluids
  • Insertion of a nasogastric tube (NGT)
  • Lumbar Puncture
  • Reduction of a simple dislocation of a joint
  • Removal of a foreign body from the ear, nose and eye
  • Urinary Catherisation - on a male patient
  • Insertion of intercostal catheter
  • Joint aspiration and injection
  • Appropriate use and application of sutures, including knot tying, and the indication for the use of clips
  • Opthalmoscopy - Patient
  • Auroscopy - Patient
