Emergency Medicine Research Unit

About the Group

Since its establishment in late 2005 the Emergency Medicine Research Unit has (EMRU) undertaken numerous research and academic activities including participation in several multicentre clinical trials, completion of numerous internal research projects, invitations to join several major research bodies, invitations to speak at national conferences and supervision of medical students in their research activities. The Unit has been successful in applying for funding through the NHMRC, Emergency Care Institute and the US Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network to name a few.

The EMRU was a principal investigator in the ARISE sepsis study, the largest ever randomised control trial conducted in Australasian emergency departments which has recently been completed and accepted for publication in NEJM. The EMRU has continuing research in the areas of sepsis, procedural sedation and emergency airway management.
